Configuring a Bates Stamping Profile

Using the Bates Stamp Template Editor, you can design a Bates Stamp template which can be applied to documents or images.  Sequential marking only applies to multi-page images.  Since the TIFF file format supports multi-page documents, it is the preferred format to use here.

Bates Stamp

NameDescription
Stamp List

Allows you to toggle between multiple created Bates Stamp boxes on the template.

Position & Size section Allows you to adjust the selected Bates Stamp box's position, as well as its width and height.
Font & Color Allows you to set the font type, size, style, and color of the text within the selected Bates Stamp box.
Text Flow Allows you to set the horizontal and vertical alignment of the text within the selected Bates Stamp box.
Stamp Elements

Allows you to add, rename, delete, and reorder any Bates Stamp elements for the selected Bates Stamp box, as well as toggle between multiple Bates Stamp elements for that Bates Stamp box.

A Bates Stamp box can have multiple Bates Stamp elements.  In which case, elements listed top to bottom in the list are compiled left to right on the page.

Current Element Properties

Allows you to define what type of Bates Stamp element to use (Numeric, Alphabetical, Static Text, Roman, Date, or Time).  The property fields will differ depending on the type chosen, as they are type-specific fields.  Shown below are the descriptions for each property field.

Name

Description

Type

There are six types of elements:

  1. Numeric - Numeric counter (0, 1, 2, 3, ..., 10, 11, etc.)
  2. Alphabetical - Alphabetical counter (A, B, C, ..., X, Y, Z, AA, AB, AC, etc.)
  3. Static Text - Static, user-defined text

You may enter the token <CASENUMBER> in a Static Text element, which will be replaced by the input data from the panel.

  4. Roman - Roman numeric counter (I,II, III, IV, etc.)
  5. Date - Current date (MM/DD/YYYY format)
  6. Time - Current time (e.g. 3:04 PM)

First Value

The starting value for the element.

Length

The maximum allowable length of the value:

  • Numeric range: 0 to 27
  • Alphabetical range: 0 to 8

For example, the maximum value for a Numeric element with length 2 will be "99", and the maximum value for an Alphabetical element will be "ZZ".

Increment

The number to increment by each time.  To decrement, use a negative number.

Every

Defines how often the Increment value is used.  For example, if the Every value is set to 3, the increment will occur once every 3 pages.

Case

Allows you to choose between upper-case and lower-case options for the value:

  • UPPER - Use all upper-case for the value
  • lower - Use all lower-case for the value
  • lower-UPPER - Use lower-case initially, and alternate between upper-case and lower-case for the value.
  • UPPER-lower - Use upper-case initially, and alternate between lower-case and upper-case for the value.

Print Leading Zeroes

If enabled, then an element will be printed with leading zeroes.

  1. Load a sample TIFF file to use in designing your Bates Stamp template by doing one of the following:

    • From the Template Editor toolbar, click the Load Image button ( ).- OR -
    • From the Template Editor menu, select File > Load Image.

  2. The Open TIFF Image dialog will display.  Select the TIFF file you wish to use, and click the Open button.  The file you chose will now be displayed in the Template Editor.Note: If a multi-page TIFF file is selected, only the first page will be displayed within the Template Editor.

  3. By default, the grid is enabled for the Template Editor.  This allows for quick editing based upon grid increments set within the Grid Properties.  If you wish to disable the grid, right click on the template and select Grid Properties.  Then set the Enable option to False
  4. Add a Bates Stamp to the template by doing one of the following, go to Draw > Add Bates Stamp.

  5. Using the mouse, left-click and drag to form a rectangular box over the region where you wish to add a Bates Stamp.  Release the left-click mouse button to finish forming the Bates Stamp box.  This box defines where the Bates Stamp will appear during the Batch Print process.  In the screenshot below, the Bates Stamp box has been added to the top of the template.

  6. The properties for the Bates Stamp box appear to the right of the template.

  7. Set the desired properties for the Bates Stamp element.

In the screenshots below, a Static Text Bates Stamp element (Case Number) has been added along with a Static Text Bates Stamp element (Underscore) and a Numeric Bates Stamp element (Page Number).

  8. Repeat steps 5 through 7 to create as many Bates Stamp boxes as necessary.

For Bates Stamp boxes with multiple elements, the elements will be printed out in the order they appear in the Elements list.  For example, in the screenshot above, the element "CaseNumber" will be printed before the element "Underscore". If you wish to reorder the elements, you may do so using the Up ( ) and Down ( ) arrow buttons.

  9. If you wish to preview the Bates Stamp(s) that you have created, go to File > Preview. The Bates Stamp Preview window will appear, showing the currently loaded TIFF file with your created Bates Stamp(s).

The text "<CASENUMBER>" will ultimately be replaced by the input from the panel.

  10. When you are finished, save your template by selecting Save button from the Template Editor menu.
