Updating PrintPath

Update Preparations

Before updating PrintPath, please make note of the following information:

  1. Installation Directory - Note down the folder path in Windows where PrintPath is currently installed to as you will need to select this same directory during the update process.

  2. SQL Server Configuration - You can find out the existing database server using the PrintPath Configuration Tool by going to Start > Programs > Prism Software > PrintPath > PrintPath Config.

  3. Service Accounts - In the Windows Services list (Start > Run and type "services.msc"), locate the PrintPath services.  To modify the login properties, right click on the selected service, go to Properties, and then the "Log On" tab.  Make note of the Log On properties (including any specific user account and password information) as you will need to reconfigure this information after the upgrade.

    1. PrintPath Service - This is the main service of PrintPath and communicates to the SQL Database Server and Active Directory.  This service should be set with the appropriate user logon credentials and with "Automatic" for the Startup Type.

    2. PrintPath Printer Monitor Service - This service communicates with the Print Spooler service and should be set to logon as the "Local System" account with "Automatic (Delayed Start)" for the Startup Type.

    3. PrintPath FollowPrint Service - This service handles FollowPrint / GuestPrint / Scan to Me/Home / BrowsePrint functions.  This service should be set with the appropriate user logon credentials and with "Automatic (Delayed Start)" for the Startup Type.

Also, as a safety precaution please note that it is strongly recommended to make a complete backup of your entire PrintPath system prior to attempting the update.
